The 2013 BASC Wales Country Fair…

‘Family Fun Weekend at Premier North Wales Venue!’

The beautiful setting of Bodelwyddan Castle, near St Asaph, Denbighshire is the venue for the ultimate showcase and entertainment event of its kind in Wales...the 2013 BASC Wales Country Fair, being held on Saturday 22nd June and Sunday 23rd June.

The two-day family-fun weekend is the venue for a popular and prestigious Country Fair which highlights a highly-entertaining range of country leisure pursuits, and which features continuous arena events such as spectacular flying falcons by Wales’ very own Terry Large, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) Gundog and gun safety demonstrations, a two-day Invitation Gundog Working Test, Hound Parades, Long Netting & Decoy Calling. There is also a mini countryside arena, which gives people an opportunity to talk to experts and get hands-on experience in many aspects of country leisure pursuits.

Damian Jones Horse Whispering demonstrations!
An expert horseman, and based in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales, - Damian Jones will be showing his skills of horsemanship and 'horse whispering' skills, throughout the two days. (Visit http://www.theoutlawhorseman.com/page5.htm).
Damian Jones who has trained in the USA with a John Lyons certified trainer and in Germany and the UK with natural horsetrainers in the race industry has developed his horsemanship skills over the past 12 years using techniques that have been passed on and some of his own original ideas. Damian rides part-time with the Knights of the Damned jousting stunt team nationwide when his schedule allows. He has backed and brought on over 200 horses and worked with many so called problem horses and maintains the philosophy that the horse wants and needs to be balanced mentally and emotionally and its our job to assist them in reaching this goal. He draws inspiration from the Native American mindset to horses and animals in general.


and back by popular demand... Chris Green – The Ultimate Countryman... Well-known in the country pursuits leisure calendar TV celebrity Chris Green will be demonstrating his considerable experience in wildfowling, pigeon shooting and the use of ferrets.

Gundog Training Displays...
*New for 2013... Training Displays by Mullenscote Gundogs...
Mullenscote Gundogs was started in the mid eighties and now boasts purpose built training facilities designed to cater for the training needs of a variety of dogs and handlers ranging from companion dogs to specialist gundogs. The comprehensive demonstration will appeal to a cross-section of the community, and is designed to deliver an educational, yet fun show. The demonstrations will incorporate various training methods, human and dog psychology and will demonstrate dogs of varying ages from a puppy to a fully trained dog. The professional dog training team are available to assist and advise with many of the difficulties that arise when living and working with dogs.

Howard Kirby has been training dogs for more than twenty years, and he leads the team, specialising in training and assisting handlers to get the best from their dogs. Howard and his Mullenscote Dog Training Team can be seen right across the country giving demonstrations and running clinics and seminars. "Training a dog can be a fantastic experience, our job is to ensure dog owners get professional advice that is personalised and relevant to their individual dog and circumstances," says Howard. Mullenscote is very much family businesses, and working alongside Howard are his father, mother, stepfather, brother, and sister-in-law!


The two-day event includes an exhibition by BASC the national representative body for sporting shooting. They play a prominent role with a 100-ft marquee showing all aspects of their objectives (To promote and protect sporting and shooting and the well-being of the countryside throughout the United Kingdom and overseas. ... And to represent their members' interests by providing a voice for sporting shooting which includes wildfowling, game, and rough shooting, deer stalking, target shooting and air gunning, pigeon shooting and pest control, gun dogs, promoting practical habitat conservation, training and the setting of standards and undertaking appropriate research, plus game rearing, and conservation. Indeed everything from antique guns to pheasant rearing and much more.

The Country Fair, is a unique mix of working demonstrations and informative features including a Shooting School, free fly casting & tuition with accredited AAPGAI instructor Derek Turner, and stick dressing. One of the delights of the Country Fair are the fun “Have-A-Go!” events where anyone can literally have a go at archery, airgunning, muzzle loaders, a Terriers & Lurchers Show (Sunday) and for shooting enthusiasts there is a Sporting Clay Shoot, (fibre wads only). Showing all aspects of country life the County Fair offers a unique mix of arena entertainment. To complete the family-fun weekend there is a Craft Fair, and a Bouncy Castle and amusements.

We have a variety of attractive and entertaining demonstrations in the main arena to delight visitors young and old! It’s a popular social event for friends and family, and a special occasion in the nation’s country pursuit’s calendar. With lots of quality Trade Stands there is plenty to discover”. Bodelwyddan Castle is set in 260 acres of magnificent parkland, the Castle is a partner of the National Portrait Gallery and is open to the public most days throughout the year.
